Along the Drava river in a day
Meet the towns of Ormož and Središče ob Dravi. Take a stroll through Ormož and visit the Castle and the Castle Cafeteria in Ormož. Set out to be embraced by nature on the way to Središče ob Dravi. And await the sunset in the winegrowing village of Kog.
After arriving in Ormož, we suggest you first visit the Ormož Museum, where you will learn about the town and its history through a tour of the Manor house and Ormož Castle.
After the tour of the Castle, we recommend a visit to the Castle Cafe Repair Shop, where you can make your own coffee in a very special way and choose a cup from a set of elegant cups to take it home later. For a perfect urban experience, you can stroll through the picturesque Castle Park, one of the best kept parks in Slovenia.
Finish your tour of Ormož in the beautifully preserved city centre. You will also find the Ormož marketplace, which is open on Fridays near the Hostel and offers local delicacies.
Experience the Drava plain spanning all the way to Središče ob Dravi. To enhance your experience, take a bike (you can rent one at the Ormož Tourist and Information Centre in the Ormož Castle) or go there by car.
If you take a bike, you can continue your journey along the Drava cycling track. The path will initially lead you along the shore of Lake Ormož to the Ormož Basins Nature Reserve, which is an outstanding wildlife sanctuary. In addition to numerous birds, the Reserve is also a sanctuary for water buffalo, which still live freely and graze on the embankments. This is a paradise for ornithologists, nature and peace lovers as well as hikers.
If you have decided to spend your day on bike, follow the Drava cycling track to the settlement of Frankovci, where you can enjoy a genuine homemade meal at the Črni Ribič guesthouse. Continue your journey to the town of Središče ob Dravi, where you can visit another protected nature area, the Središče ob Dravi Landscape Park. In the pleasant cool of the floodplain forest by the sounds of the Drava river you can easily commune with nature. A keen observer will not miss the many animals that have found a place to live here and one may also notice beaver and otter tracks. Filled with new energy, you can go on to be captivated by the scent of pumpkin-seed oil, which will take you to the oil mill Oljarna Jeruzalem Sat.
If time permits, you can ascend from the Drava plain to the village of Kog, which is surrounded by vineyards. You can taste exquisite wines at a number of winegrowers’. Also inviting is the Košarka’s House featuring a museum of farming implements. The nearby Hlebec Tourist Farm will prepare for you an authentic local meal. For a perfect end of the day, you can await the sunset amidst the vine-covered hills. You will not be sorry!
